Dear SI-PASS Supervisors,
We would like to inform you that the International Conference on SI-PASS will be held in Toronto, Canada between 9-11 June 2022, see conference website on https://info.umkc.edu/si/2022-home/ . It would be great to meet European colleagues there. If you would like to give an interactive presentation there or perhaps nominate a SI-PASS programme, SI-PASS Leader, Mentor or Supervisor for an award, see attached flyer for more information (Deadline November 30).
If you are interested in giving a presentation at the conference, but would like to get some more info on what is expected from proposals and perhaps talk to some other colleagues about their presentation ideas, we can arrange a zoom-meeting in the near future. If you would be interested in such a meeting - send an email to joakim.malm at lth.lu.se<mailto:joakim.malm at lth.lu.se> as soon as possible.

European SI-PASS/PAL Festival 2021 - An Update
Hi all,
A while back we emailed to introduce this year's SI-PASS/PAL Leader Appreciation week, designed to recognise and celebrate all our Leaders across Europe. We are now getting back in touch with an update and to make you aware of a few changes.
1. What's changed?
We initially proposed a Leader Appreciation Week during 7th - 12 November, however after feedback and further consideration we can now announce that we will be launching a SI-PASS/PAL Leader Festival from 28th November - 2nd December 2021.
With a simplified title, and later dates, it is hoped that more institutions will be able to register Leaders to the European Center facilitated elements, and that we are providing more time for Supervisors to choose to run their own 'festival' event on campus, during this week.
2. What is on offer?
The European center invites Supervisors to register SI-PASS/PAL Leaders to attend the Festival, which will offer a series of synchronous and asynchronous sessions.
Leaders who attend the European Centre Festival can expect -
Pre & Throughout the Festival
· A pre-Festival pack
· Access for a year to a MIRO board - to connect with other Festival attendees, build a SI-PASS community, and share resources
Sunday 28th November - Evening
· Online Festival Launch Event to kickoff the Festival
Monday 29th - Tuesday 30th November and Thursday 2nd December
· Daily - Exclusive asynchronous material launched, with opportunities to connect and reflect with other Leaders
· Each Morning - 'Thought for the Day' - A short, thought provoking session to kick start the Festival day!
· Lunch times - Festival Fika! hosted by an International Certified SI/PASS Trainers. Informal drop in coffee session with other Leaders and International Colleagues
· Each Evening -
· A choice of Parallel Sessions to attend
· A 'Headliner' Event
· Opportunity to digest the day and connect with other Leaders
Wednesday 1st December - Campus Festival Day!
· Campus Fringe Events! - a chance for Leaders from the same institution to come together on campus to reflect, share and learn from each other.
· We encourage supervisors to be hosting events on campus, and will be providing guidance and ideas for institutions who are able to organise some activity
· For any Festival delegates who are unable to access any individual institution activity, they will still have the opportunity to attend the daily ''Thought for the Day' session and Festival Fika!
Thursday 2nd December
· Celebratory Evening Event for all Festival delegates (+ Supervisors/Extra Leaders to Institutions who have registered Leaders to attend!)
Ongoing Opportunities - NEW for 2021 Festival
· Registered Leaders will have the opportunity to join a small facilitated group (with a mix of Institutions) to work throughout the Festival and beyond to provide shareable outputs for dissemination with all attendees and the Leaders own Institutions
We want to make the Festival accessible in terms of engagement and cost. Therefore, we have been conscious to keep costs as low as possible and offer group packages enabling more Leaders to attend from the same institution. Many of the Festival events will feature asynchronous content allowing participating Leaders to engage with material at times that suit them.
3. Costs & Registration
960 SEK Swedish per Leader (Approx £80 GBP)
4175 SEK Swedish for 5 Leaders (Approx £350 GBP)
7750 SEK for 10 Leaders (Approx £650 GBP)
You register by: https://www.si-pass.lu.se/webform/booking_form_european_si_pass_le Please note that you will have to wait for an invoice from Lund university before you can pay by credit card.
If you have registered with us already, we will be in touch separately to advise on next steps!
4. How could my Instituton get involved in the Festival?
As part of the broader SI-PASS/PAL Festival, we hope that you will take the opportunity to deliver some Festival activity on your campus, to bring Leaders together for them to share experiences and as an Institution to celebrate the impact they are having.
We are really keen to hear your ideas of what this could look like for your programmes, but we also recognize that everyone is really busy so we will be providing (for those who are interested) a resource bank of ideas/guidance of activities you could run during this week.
We hope that many of you will be able to engage your Leaders in as many aspects of the 2021 European SI-PASS PAL Festival as possible!
Best wishes

Hi all,
We are introducing a SI-PASS/PAL Leader Appreciation week from Sunday 7th - Saturday 12 November 2021, for us to recognize and appreciate all our Leaders across Europe.
We hope that you as Supervisors will use this as an opportunity to host something on your campus to celebrate and appreciate your SI-PASS/PAL community. In the coming weeks more guidance will follow of some ideas of events/initiatives you could host in order to recognize SI-PASS Leader Appreciation Week.
Within Leader Appreciation week, we will be hosting the 2nd Virtual SI-PASS/PAL Leader Festival as we know there is still a desire for Leaders to come together to share practice, network, learn from and inspire each other.
We are planning to hold a SI-PASS Festival in that week which will offer a series of synchronous and asynchronous sessions, seminars and activities for Leaders.
Leaders who attend the European Centre Festival will be offered:
1. a physical pre-conference/festival pack delivered to the delegate's personal address
2. a kick-off event
3. days including:
* an evening 'headliner (keynote talks/workshops) to spark and challenge current thinking and practice.
* a selection of sessions to attend each day.
* contribution to Leader parallel sessions to share good practice and learn from others
4. Each Leader to also be allocated to a small action learning facilitated group (with a mix of Institutions) to share experiences and work on tasks throughout the Festival and beyond, in which there will be outputs generated to share with all attendees and the Leaders own Institutions
5. A celebratory event at the end of the week (opened up to a larger group of Leaders/non-conference attendees from Institutions who have delegates attending)
6. have the opportunity to continue collaborations beyond the Festival informing the development of SI-PASS across institutions
We are keen to make this event as accessible as possible in terms of engagement and cost. Therefore, we have been conscious to keep costs as low as possible and offer group packages enabling more Leaders to attend from the same institution. Many of the Festival events will feature asynchronous content allowing participating Leaders to engage with material at times that suit them.
960 SEK Swedish per Leader (Approx £80 GBP)
4175 SEK Swedish for 5 Leaders (Approx £350 GBP)
7750 SEK for 10 Leaders (Approx £650 GBP)
As some of you might want to register early to make the payment before July 31st here is a link to the registration form: https://www.si-pass.lu.se/webform/booking_form_european_si_pass_le Please note that you will have to wait for an invoice from Lund university before you can pay by credit card.
This is a Leader focused event and we hope to work in partnership with Supervisors in the event delivery/engage in some aspects. Supervisors of participating institutions will be invited to a pre-Festival event to understand the Festival journey.
Best wishes

Hi SI-PASS, PAL and PASS Colleagues
Closing date: 27/06/2021
I'm very happy to announce that the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) is looking to appoint a Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) Administration and Training Coordinator with a specific focus on regular liaison with internal and external stakeholders; enquiry services; delivery of training to staff and PAL Leaders; and the coordination of administrative support.
This is a permanent 1 FTE E grade vacancy.
We are looking for somebody who is dynamic; able to work relatively independently and manage competing priorities; has excellent organisational skills and experience of supporting or delivering training to groups and individuals; and is able to hit the ground running.
Joining our small but fast-paced PAL team is an excellent opportunity to work collaboratively with students, faculty staff as well as contacts in other services, and counterparts at other HEIs.
This is an exciting time to be working in Peer Assisted Learning at UWE as our strategic importance is growing in terms of the student experience and student success. PAL provision will be particularly critical next academic year in supporting student transitions, boosting their academic confidence and wellbeing and developing a strong student community after a year of remote studying.

Hi,
As there is an invitation to suggest topics for FIKAs or trainings (“If you
want to suggest another topic just send us a mail in advance to
<mailto:si-pass at stu.lu.se> si-pass at stu.lu.se”)., here is my suggestion: to
discuss together this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TWDODjUK_A or
at least the first ten minutes. Of course, supplemental instruction is a
vague term and it can point at not more than a regular course given a second
time by someone else than the teacher, without any consideration for SI-PASS
principles. It might be the case here (otherwise, the leader, if this person
is, does not make a great job on the compliance to the principle).
Nevertheless, we could think together “in the abstract”, about what else
could be done to instil more of a si-pass spirit in the process. I suggest
this video because we are still in an “online pass” time but other
face-to-face footage could also be dealt with.
More generally, I think that the available video material on “real world”
si-pass session is poor at the moment. I think I have reviewed almost every
possible resource (I can send the list and some comments, possibly to enrich
by all). I use some of them or some excerpts. But it is much work for just a
few nuggets. First, I think such a list of resources, points of interest in
each of them and suggestion of use in initial/continuous SI-Leader training
might be useful to the supervisors’ network. Secondly, I wonder whether we
should not think about developing this database of genuine or faked (there
are one of two of this king which are interesting) examples. Indeed, there
might be more out there. I guess that many teaching&learning centers
organizing si-pass have their own sessions good and less good examples (I
have some records here), unfortunately protected by the crazy laws on
personal data. In any case, I think a more systematic reflection on session
footages might somehow be beneficial to everyone committed to si-pass. Why
not a MOOC or an online course coordinated by the European Center that would
involve different partners and provide as many of such concrete – and
properly documented – resources for initial/continuous training of
supervisors and leaders?
Just ideas.
All the best.

SI-PASS Fika
Following the success of bringing Supervisors together on zoom, the Leader
Festival and the pilot FIKA in November, the European Centre for SI-PASS
(Lund University) is pleased to announce SI-PASS FIKAs will become a regular
monthly feature for supervisors and leaders. (An SI-PASS FIKA is an informal
get together over a cup of coffee/tea and a cinnamon bun (last item not
mandatory). The FIKA is free of charge and provides a chance to talk about
SI-PASS related issues or just have a chat with SI-PASS friends). The next
FIKA will be on Wednesday 21st of April at 2-3.30 pm UK time/3-4:30 CET. The
meeting is online (you don’t need to register) with English as working
language on the following zoom-link: <https://lu-se.zoom.us/j/4630658731>
https://lu-se.zoom.us/j/4630658731 . The theme of the FIKA will be “ways of
rewarding Leaders for their work”. But other topics are welcome as well. If
you want to suggest another topic just send us a mail in advance to
<mailto:si-pass at stu.lu.se> si-pass at stu.lu.se. We would also like to invite
people to try out a short online activity related to SI-PASS during the
FIKA. In our preparation of Leader training/debriefs and such we might want
to test a new activity and see how it works. If you have an idea of such an
online SI-PASS activity you want to have feedback on in the friendly setting
of a FIKA – please mail us about it.
Upcoming trainings (For more information and to register please visit our
web-site: <http://www.si-pass.lu.se/en> www.si-pass.lu.se/en )
· SI-PASS Supervisor training 20-23 of April (Fully booked). Next
Supervisor trainings are given online 4-5/7-8 October and 22-23/25-26
November (both are open for registration). Several people have expressed
interest in having another Supervisor training before summer. We would
therefore like to explore if there is enough interest in having such a
training in late June. If you have colleagues that would be interested,
please tell them to send an e-mail to us to <mailto:si-pass at stu.lu.se>

Hi all,
Here has been a great interest in our Supervisor trainings this spring and we are very happy that our trainings in January, March and April have been fully booked. However, the next Supervisor trainings are not given until 4-5/7-8 October and 22-23/25-26 November and several people have expressed their interest in attending a Supervisor training before summer. We would therefore like to explore the demands for an extra Supervisor training to be held the last week of June. So, if you have colleagues that would be interested in attending a training before summer, please ask them to send an e-mail to us to si-pass at stu.lu.se<mailto:si-pass at stu.lu.se> as soon as possible. If we have an interest from at least 8 persons we will set up a training in June as well and advertise it through this list serve as well as on our website (were the registrations for our autumn trainings and additional trainings are open) www.si-pass.lu.se/en<http://www.si-pass.lu.se/en>
