Dear all,
Long time since our last communication regarding the SII application.
I, like some of you, still hope that we can follow up some of the
threads in other ways. For now, I thought to inform you about a
symposium that we are organising in relation to our SUITCEYES project,
in which we will present some of the recent results. As you might know,
we are developing a smart haptic interface in form of clothing in that
project, which of course is an example of soft intelligent interfaces
that we were all interested in. So I hope that the symposium will
interest you.
Furthermore, the symposium will offer the opportunity for us to get
together in person and discuss and exchange ideas. Please join us if you
can. And regardless of whether you can or cannot, please help us and
spread the news about the symposium through your relevant networks as
you see fit.
Many thanks and best regards,
Nasrine
P.S. Sorry for double posting, I know that this message has reached
some of you already through other lists.

Haptic Communication – Breaking the
Barriers for Inclusion and Participation
How would you listen to the news, ask a shopkeeper about a product,

technologies, linguistics, machine learning, user studies),
• Decision makers (inclusion accessibility),
• Stakeholders (people with deafblindness, families, interpreters,

About the symposium
Information access and ease of communication are basic elements of
daily living, often taken for granted, but not by people with
deafblindness. If deaf, one can still see and communicate through visual
clues; if blind, one can hear and communicate via spoken language. With
a combination of both sight and hearing impairments the challenges are
more than doubled. While there are many assistive technologies to
facilitate communication for people with either sight or hearing
impairments, there are very few useful communication tools for those
with deafblindness. This is a gap that the SUITCEYES research project
aims to bridge.
SUITCEYES brings together cutting-edge research from multiple
disciplines with the aim to improve the independence and participation
of people with deafblindness by enhancing their communication,
perception of the environment, knowledge acquisition and conduct of
daily routines. Semantic representations of environmental clues and
haptic communication are therefore, central to the project. In
connection to this, the Symposium "Haptic Communication - Breaking the
Barriers" (August 22) provides a forum for an interesting conversation
on how signs, words, vocabularies and grammar can be emulated towards a
haptic language. We will also share the latest news and research results
from the project.
You are warmly invited to join us and engage with Swedish and
international experts in related fields.
