“PALS/SI-PASS: The Leader Experience”

Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, 5th-6th June 2023

Keynote speaker: Linnea Wallen (Lecturer in Sociology)

Individual paper, panel and workshop contributions are welcomed for ‘PALS/SI-PASS: The Leader Experience’ to be held in-person at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, on June 5th-6th 2023. This conference explores the uses and impact of academic peer learning and support in Higher Education contexts, with a specific focus on leader experiences.

The SI-PASS/PAL model is a globally established provision that aims to support students throughout their educational experience. A growing body of literature acknowledges the impact of Peer Assisted Learning on students’ social and academic experiences, particularly in relation to Widening Participation (WP) and student retention. In line with PAL's focus on WP, and the centrality of student perspectives and experiences, the conference organisers welcome contributions from student leaders that explore Peer Assisted Learning provision within Higher Education. We invite contributions in the format of presentations, workshops, or posters, on a range of topics including but not limited to:

·       Peer Assisted Learning and student wellbeing

·       Division/field-specific peer learning practices (e.g., Peer Learning in the Arts and Humanities; Peer Learning in the Social and/or Life Sciences)

·       Transferrable skills for career progression

·       Peer Assisted Learning and integration into Higher Education

·       Peer Assisted learning and Widening Participation

·       Impact of leadership on personal development

·       Impact of peer learning on academic success

·       Students as partners: coordinator support
