Dear NPF,
Deliverables 4 and 8, both linked to the first Periodic Report in the North Pole Fiber project, have been submitted to HaDEA.
Both deliverables help prepare for the Periodic Report 1 (due 18 months into the project + 60 days, i.e. 29 August 2025):
* Deliverable 4 (D1.4) – Progress report linked to Reporting period 1 (M18) compiles the progress that has been made in the first 18 months of the project, including the deviations from the original plan.
* Deliverable 8 (D1.8) – Communication report 1 compiles the communication efforts that have been carried out during the first 18 months of the project.
You find them in Box: https://nordunet.box.com/s/32spu1ti47sc580ir01msnw8nl4l6ntv
Thanks to everyone who contributed to these deliverables!
Kind regards,
Lisa

Dear North Pole Fibre (NPF) and Polar Connect Step 1 (PC1) teams,
A non-NDA-version of the results from the Arctic Simulation has now been submitted to HaDEA as part of the NPF project. Erik-Jan has done an excellent job preparing it based on Martin Jakobsson’s analyses, and we know that it has stirred quite some interest in the European Commission.
The purpose of the simulation is to (in even more detail) identify the shortest, soundest, and most stable route for Polar Connect through the Central Arctic Ocean, based on seafloor and ice condition data, and cable characteristics. The Arctic expeditions in PC1 (during the summers of 2025, 2026 and 2027) will collect data that further improves the simulation, with each new data collection.
Attached is the submitted version, stripped of sensitive NDA-information.
Kind regards,
Lisa

Dear NPF team,
One week ago today, Julia’s deliverable (D3.1 Configuration Study Report) on what data collection opportunities researchers would like to see on the Polar Connect cable was submitted to HaDEA. It is a really nicely executed work and you can check it out: here<https://nordunet.box.com/s/86u3r7ohb8ycxxbqlzt2jo5bzeo65gf9>.
This deliverable was initially due in August last year. As agreed with HaDEA, it was postponed until May this year because of the timing of the Arctic field season and Julia’s start in the project.
Kind regards,
Lisa
